Reliable Solar Lighting for Yas Island’s North Emirati Community

How 250 Australian Made SBL2 Series solar bollard lights are supporting pathways and community spaces in Abu Dhabi, including locations affected by full shade.

The Yas Island North Emirati Community project required dependable outdoor lighting across pathways and shared community spaces in Abu Dhabi. The project needed a commercial solar lighting solution capable of supporting regular public use while performing consistently across a site that included fully shaded locations.

A total of 250 Australian Made SBL2 Series solar bollard lights were selected for the project. The installation was delivered for Abu Dhabi’s Department of Municipalities and Transport, designed by Parsons, with SES General Trading and Hilalco involved in the project delivery.

The project challenge

Solar lighting performance is strongly influenced by the conditions at each location. While Abu Dhabi receives abundant sunlight, landscaping, surrounding infrastructure and the built environment can create sections where solar access is reduced.

Site-specific product selection helped provide dependable illumination across heavily shaded sections of the development.

For this project, the lighting solution needed to provide constant and reliable illumination across pathways and community areas, including fully shaded locations. That requirement made product selection and site-specific configuration an important part of the project.

Why the SBL2 Series was selected

The SBL2 Series is a commercial-grade solar bollard light designed and manufactured in Australia for demanding public infrastructure environments. Its self-contained design supports pathway and public-space lighting without relying on a conventional mains-powered lighting network.

The SBL2 Series also carries a 10-year product warranty and has been developed for long-term performance across challenging outdoor environments.

Supporting safe and liveable community spaces

The completed installation provides solar lighting across the community’s pathways and shared outdoor areas. Beyond illumination, the project demonstrates how properly specified solar lighting can support safer movement after dark while contributing to the broader usability and liveability of public spaces.
