SBL3 Series by Solar Bollard Lighting

Smartest in Design – Still Powered by Nature

The commercial grade SBL3 Series releasing in 2026 is our GEN5 to be released over the 20 years SBL have been manufacturing. With the same rugged and submersible DNA of the new SBLV2 Series, with additional features and an IR controllable design.

The SBL3 comes with additional programmable options such as sixteen lighting profiles, dual power stepping, four lux switching options, and eight additional power levels increasing illumination further in many geographical locations.

SBL3 Series is focusing on smart city best practices, dark sky and wildlife certification covering both turtle species, with increased operational longevity, on site modification to easily repurpose it at end-of-life cycle, will make the SBL3 truly most sustainable lighting asset globally.

S Model

SBL3 S model (GEN5) all-in-one solar light is the most advanced product release in over 20+ years of design & manufacturing.

External programming of 16+ lighting profiles, 17 power levels, and dual power stepping was R&D’s focus in achieving a lighting cycle that will ensure lighting levels will stay lighting code compliant.

SBL3 Takes Control

The Australian Made SBL3 S model solar lights are not only smart they will withstand accelerating climate driven challenges and continue lighting up when fully submersed, in locations affected by

  • Cat 5 cyclone/hurricane wind speeds
  • Extreme flooding events
  • Tidal surges and tsunamis
  • Severe snow and ice blizzards
  • Light pollution control – add the SR

WLF Model

SBL3 WLF model (GEN5) all-in-one solar light feature all parameters of the S Model but was made wildlife compliant for eco-habits.

The WLF design is fauna and flora focused by reducing adverse impacts on both marine turtle species, and other fauna. The WLF will ensure all bases can be covered for the specific habitat’s requirement.

Circadian Rhythms

The Australian Made SBL3 WLF model solar light ability to recharge without direct sunlight, cover both turtle species, offer various light distribution control options sets us apart. The SBL3 Series WLF

  • Withstands Cat 5 wind speeds
  • Flooding, tidal surges and tsunamis
  • Covers both turtle species
  • Three light distribution controls
  • Light pollution control – add the SR

Frequently Asked Questions

Solar bollard lights use a solar panel, which has a series of photovoltaic (PV) cells that convert sunlight into an electrical current that moves through an electrical control circuit into the storage battery. After dark, the battery uses the stored energy collected during the day to power the LEDs (light-emitting diodes) that are hard-wired into the electrical control circuit.

Solar bollard lights are bright enough for the types of applications for which they are intended, provided they are designed correctly. The actual location of installation and model design used will determine this. The lighting level or brightness of a luminaire (light fitting) is measured in lumens, lux, or foot candela. This is the total amount of light from the actual luminaire itself, not the LED module cluster.

Solar bollard lights are made in various locations with manufacturers in Australia, Austria, Canada, Britain, and China.
Reliability always depends on product quality, so you won’t buy a quality commercial-grade solar bollard light cheaply.
A quality commercial-grade solar bollard light will be what is called fit-for-purpose and will reliably come on every night for at least 10 years and will come with a 10-year product warranty that covers the battery and light pole or mounting bracket as well.

Nothing, as the energy is provided by the sun, which is naturally replenishing and a free resource. That is why solar lighting is so cost-effective and reliable.

It is important when purchasing solar lighting that the purchase price is not the only criterion when measuring value for money. Your ‘Return on Investment’ (ROI) should be calculated on the whole of life asset cost.
A simple way to calculate value for money is to use the product warranty term, which is how long manufacturers of solar lighting expect their product to be reliable and will provide you with an annual cost as shown in this example of a solar bollard light with a 5-year warranty versus one with a 10-year warranty (excl. installation, labour, transport, taxes).
3-year warranted product – Price $400 ÷ 3 years = $133.34 per annum
5-year warranted product – Price $600 ÷ 5 years = $120 per annum
10-year warranted product – Price $900 ÷ 10 years = $90 per annum

Commercial grade solar bollard lights must be designed Fit-For-Purpose to survive the harshest of environments and extreme temperature fluctuations, whilst consistently delivering reliable lighting across a wide range of applications. Commercial-grade solar lights require five key design and manufacturing requirements to ensure a reliable and value-for-money lighting outcome is achieved.
1. The highest grade of componentry and raw materials has been used.
2. Manufactured in a country with ethical work practices under ISO9001 & ISO14001
3. Certifications (IP, IK, LM-79, etc) through accredited signatories of ILAC and APAC.
4.10-year warranty including the battery, pole/stem/post/mounting bracket
5. 4 nights of winter solstice battery backup (without daily solar input).

Solar bollard lights will last between 1 year to well over 10 years for a quality commercial-grade product. The product design and quality of components used are what differentiate the amount of time a solar bollard light will last.
Quality commercial-grade solar light manufacturers will warrant their product (which includes the battery, light pole, or mounting bracket) for the minimum amount of time they expect their solar light will continue operating reliably, which is at least 10 years.
Mass-produced residential-grade solar light manufacturers will warrant their product (“excluding” the battery, light pole, or mounting bracket) for the maximum amount of time they expect their solar light to operate between 1 and 5 years.

Commercial-grade solar bollard lights will have a 10-year warranty, which will include the battery and light pole or mounting bracket within the term.
Residential-grade solar bollard lights will have a 1-to-5-year warranty, and in most cases do not include the battery and light pole or mounting bracket.

Most solar bollard light batteries will need regular replacement, if they can be replaced. Always check the warranty T&C’s for battery coverage.
Quality commercial-grade solar bollard lights warranted the battery for 10 years, so do not need replacing.

Solar bollard lights offer numerous benefits, from life-cycle cost savings (up to 50%), ease of installation, less environmental impact, durability, and use in more locations to enhance public safety and liveability at night, which makes them a convenient and sustainable lighting solution.

How far apart a 1m (39′) solar bollard light should be spaced will depend on the
• the quality of the brand being used,
• the light distribution pattern (asymmetrical or symmetrical),
• the useable power of the light (how bright) for the location, will affect the spacing
• what it is being used to light up (e.g. pathway, driveway),
• if any lighting standards are required to be lighting compliant.
Typically, depending on the usable power for the actual location, spacing ranges from
• 4m (13′) to 12m (39′) apart for commercial pathway lighting
• up to 20m (65’) apart for wayfinding on leisure paths or trails
• for landscaping and gardens, it will be the actual ambience you want to create.
